Affordable Housing

At Merced Housing Texas, we advocate for housing affordability and believe that no one should ever pay more than 30% of their income toward housing.

This financial strain can prevent families from affording essential expenses such as food and healthcare.

According to a 2024 report by the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University, 52.7% of renters in the San Antonio-New Braunfels area are paying 30% or more of their income toward rent and utilities. Meanwhile, unsheltered homelessness in Texas increased by 1,001–50,000 people between 2015 and 2023.

Merced owns or has developed 14 affordable communities across seven Texas cities, each designed to ensure and preserve affordability.

However, each community has its own income limitations and tenant prerequisites. We invite you to explore these communities and find out more.
